FMeXtra lanseres i Norge
DAB får nå konkurranse av et nytt og billigere digitalt radiosystem, som ikke trenger nye frekvenser.

DAB kan få en seriøs utfordrer når det digitale radiosystemet FMeXtra
nå lanseres i Norge. Noble Records i Askim har signert en avtale med Digital Radio Express ,DRE, som gir Noble
Records mulighet til å lansere FMeXtra i Norge og Danmark.
FMeXtra er en digital radioteknologi som benytter seg av de tradisjonelle FM-signalene, der analoge og
digitale radiokanaler kan sendes side om side, uten at mottager MÅ bytte mottager. Slik forklarer DRE selv teknologien: "FMeXtra™ technology
permits every radio station that share their frequency in Norway or Denmark, to broadcast 24
hour in the digital world simultaneously, effectively turning each station into the digital
future within your listening area, instantly. Tuning to the same station frequency as they have
always done, now listeners have multiple choices of 24 hours transmissions from the same station
with the touch of a button."
Løsningen skal være vesentlig billigere enn DAB både for lyttere og kringkastere: "“ It is
particularly exciting to partner with Noble to present FMeXtra™ to the radio broadcasters of
Norway and Denmark. Radio broadcasters worldwide are seeing increased competition for
listeners attention from a broad range of listening options including cell phone audio.
To answer this challenge FMeXtra™ offers the capability of multi-channel content within the
existing FM bandwidth. Since we employ worldwide standard codecs and follow that progress,
we envision 20 plus channels of content, including video, within the existing FM
bandwidth within 2 to 3 years.” sier President & CEO of Digital Radio Express, Inc i en melding.
