New radio factory opens in Norway
T Radio has started production of Ixion DAB+/FM/Internet radios in a new factory in Tønsberg. This is the first radio
manufactured in Norway since the close down of Tandberg in the 70`s. Tandberg radio was for many years a household name. T-radio
targets the high end market and has already signed a deal with Harrods in UK.
Digital listening is up
New listening figueres from TNS Gallup shows that the digital listening in Norway is 61 % in Q1. That is up from 57% in the same quarter
last year. This includes listening to internet radio, via digital TV as well as DAB.
Will not stop the DAB project
Minister of Culture, Linda Hofstad Helleland, has been asked by Senterpartiet (Political party with strong presence in the countryside) to consider a
postponement of the FM shutdown, due to (among other things) bad coverage in rural areas. Helleland has answered that the coverage is good enough and sees no reason to stop the DAB project.
Outrage after NRK P1 changes local music policy
NRK P1, which is a partly national and partly local service, has changed its rules regarding music played in the local morning shows. The new rules says that no unknown or new
local music should be played in the morning shows, but this kind of music should only be played in the afternoon shows. Local artists and others have protested and says that will mean less local music in NRK P1.
Local DAB awarded in 19 regions
There was not a lot of interest in getting a licence for local DAB. Only in 19 of 37 regions were there applicants, and in most of them only one, which was directly awarded.
In two regions there was an auction, in Oslo there was only one bid, but in the Haugesund region there were several bidders, and FK Haugesund ( the local football club! ) was awardes the licence for local DAB
