Due to strike, the Norwegian public broadcaster, NRK, can only broadcast a limited amount of content on radio, TV and online.
1700 employees, members of Norsk Journalistlag and primarily journalists, walked out yesterday afternoon after obligatory mediation broke down. The journalists demand a pay rise and says they are lagging behind journalists in commercial media.
The strike means that there is no production of content and only editors and journalists, that are not a member of the union, are allowed to stay on air. On radio, there are only short news bullletins read by editors.
A few programs are still on air and are being sent on many channels, but NRK Radio mostly sends non stop music on all of its channels.
The strike also means that the traditional national day broadcast, with reporters all over the country, has been cancelled. On TV, there will be a live coverage with only pictures and no comments. The photographers are not on strike and the host for the program is a freelancer that were hired long before the strike was a reality.
The parties seem to be reluctant to talk to each other, so the strike might continue for some time.
