There is fierce competition to become the largest rock radio in Norway. All the main operators have their own rock station and there is now three national rock-formated radiostations and some local ones.
Among the national stations Radio Rock, owned by Bauer Media, is the largest one with a daily reach of 2,2 % - 2,7 % for the last four weeks, according to PPM-data from Nielsen Media Research
Radio Rock is in average 25 % larger than NRK P13 and 40 % larger than P6 Rock, owned by NENT Group/P4-gruppen. In actual listeners this means that NRK P13 has around 100 000 listeners daily, Radio Rock has more than that and P6 Rock less.
Program director Stian Eliassen says: - Radio Rock has a lot of skilled and experienced journalists and presenters, who loves what they're doing og takes rock seriously.

The music format is mainly hardrock from the last 40 years, from the eighties until today. But, the station is not only about the music. The morning show "Stå opp" is full of news and humour, presented by Olav Svarstad Haugland, Halvor Johansson og Henrik Bjørnson.
- We are continously working to produce better content, says Eliassen and hints that the formula of sucess is to never compromise on the format and always focus on the needs and expectations of the listeners.
Radio Rock is no longer just one linear radio station, in the last year several digital sister channels has arrived, available via internet and the station is keen to produce more quality podcasts, with most shows now producing some kind of on demand material.
Eliassen says: - Right now we are preparing for the next Top 666-list. This is a popular tradition every year, where the listeners get to choose the 666 best rock songs of all times.
The station was launched in 2015, nationally on DAB and on FM in local areas. Radio Rock has been digital only since 2017, as have all other national stations in Norway. Local radio is still broadcasting on FM.
